Garmin SOS Testing

To safely test the SOS functionality on your Garmin device, please follow the steps below. This ensures Garmin is aware the activation is a test and prevents unnecessary emergency response actions.

SOS testing only applies to devices with built-in satellite or cellular SOS capability (such as Garmin inReach or SPOT communicators); GPS-only devices do not support SOS functionality.

Step 1 — Submit Test Request Form

Before initiating a test, complete Garmin’s official request form:

Garmin SOS Test Form:
https://www.garmin.com/en-US/forms/sos-assistance-test/

When completing the form:

  • For devices registered through SIQ: in the Registered Owner field, enter:
    Julie Reed

Step 2 — Timing Requirement

Garmin requests that test notifications be submitted at least 72 hours prior to the test.

Step 3 — If Testing Sooner Than 72 Hours

If you need to test sooner:

You must notify your designated emergency contacts before activating SOS, because Garmin will call them once the signal is received. These contacts willy vary by organization and were chosen when the device was registered with Garmin.

Step 4 — Perform the Test

Once the form is submitted and contacts are informed:

  1. Activate SOS on the device following Garmin instructions.

  2. Wait for confirmation signals.

  3. Confirm your emergency contacts received notification.

Important

The test request form must be completed for every SOS test, even if testing within 72 hours. If you experience any issues during testing, please contact the support team for assistance at Support@SafetyIQ.com.
